Meet the MAPL Board of Directors
Mathew Maritz, RPL
Maritz Land Company, LLC
Matt Maritz immigrated from South Africa in June of 2003 to attend College in Traverse City. Maritz Land Company was formed in 2006 and has continued successfully in the Michigan Basin working with private and public exploration firms from around the country. Matt has enjoyed serving the members of MAPL over the course of his tenure on the board of directors and hopes to continue as President of MAPL. He is also a member of AAPL with a Registered Professional Landman (RPL) certification and a member of MOGA.
Gregory J. Vadnais, RPL
Paxton Resources, LLC
Greg Vadnais is a graduate of Fort Lewis College in Southwest Colorado. After relocating to Boyne City in 2007, Greg joined Paxton Resources, LLC as a landman. Since then he has worked on lease negotiations, acquisition of pipeline right-of-way, performed title curative and due diligence for acquisitions, learned mapping and GIS software, and worked hand in hand with his operations manager to ensure landowner satisfaction with Paxton’s field operations. He is a Registered Professional Landman (RPL), member of AAPL and MOGA.
Chris Tooman, CPL
Western Land Services, Inc.
Chris graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising & Public Relations. After a 5-year career in the motorsports marketing & event promotion industries he took the leap into the Oil & Gas Industry. Chris joined the team at Western Land Services, Inc. in 2008 and is currently the Michigan Land Manager. His skill set includes experience in lease acquisition, title & abstract research as well as due diligence, curative and operations work. He is an active member of AAPL, MAPL, MOGA and IRWA.
Greg Hackworth, RPL
Greg Hackworth graduated from Western Michigan University in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with an emphasis in Broadcasting and Cable Production. After 4 years in Television and Video Production he shifted gears and joined Clayton Energy Company in 2006. Greg is an experienced Title examiner and Abstracter. He is also skilled in the areas of Project Management, Due Diligence and Title Curative. He is an Active member of AAPL and is excited about the opportunity to serve on the MAPL Board.
Bill Jenness, IV, RPL
Evergreen Land Services, LLC
Mr. Jenness has been an exclusive sub-contractor and employee of MAR/TEC Land Services, Inc. and Clayton Energy Company since early 2006 and is the owner of Evergreen Land Services, LLC. During his more than a decade of work, Mr. Jenness has worked with outstanding clients and colleagues allowing him to develop a depth of knowledge, skill and ability well beyond his years of experience.
A natural communicator and problem solver, Mr. Jenness has been engaged in all facets of field land work; including oil and gas lease negotiation and acquisition, document preparation, mineral and surface title research and reporting, title curative and abstracting. Further, Mr. Jenness has a strong background in negotiation and acquisition of easement, right-of-way, surface use and damage settlement agreements. Mr. Jenness’ specialty is complex and difficult landowner negotiations.
In addition to MAPL, Mr. Jenness is an active member of the AAPL, MOGA and a graduate of Central Michigan University with experience in sales, banking, information technology and project management.

Luke Miller, RPL
Miller Energy, Inc
Luke Miller, Business Development, joined Miller Energy Company in 2008, adding a fourth generation to the family business. Luke holds a BA in Business Management from Cornerstone University and was previously employed by Atlas Energy Resources (currently Chevron) as a Landman where he acquired leases in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Luke has taken an active role in the Oil and Gas Industry through his membership with the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA), Michigan Oil and Gas Association (MOGA), and Michigan Association of Professional Landmen (MAPL). In addition to his membership with the above associations he serves in the following roles:

As Vice President of MOGPEF and President of EEM, his interest has been focused on education and the role it plays in furthering the understanding of the Oil and Gas Industry. Luke’s experience in the land functions of the business provided him the incentive to become actively involved with the MAPL Board as Membership Chairman. He is honored to be able to serve in positions that elicit his specific interest and excited to be a part of such a dynamic industry.
